Children from the poorer corners of Mwanza received English lessons, food and presents all in the spirit of Christmas.
Yesterday after learning English, Maths, ITC, Swimming and Art, as part of an outreach programme at the Tanzanian city’s Isamilo International School, the young people enjoyed a meal, gifts and a show.
Plates full of chapattis, plantains, beans and chicken were gobbled up by about 180 youngsters, all served up by the staff and student volunteers from the school.
Sometimes living here in East Africa when you see abject poverty on a daily basis, it is difficult to know how to help. I try to remember the quote from catholic nun and missionary Mother Teresa: “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”
These were some of my photographs from the day.
