Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream: Afloat

Rowing across the River Ganges in Varanasi, India.

Every morning at sunrise hundreds of Hindus gather on banks of the sacred river Ganges in the city of Varanasi.

Some perform puja (worship), some bathe and some simply do their washing – and the ghats, or riverfront steps, are chock-a-block full of pilgrims.

This holy city is positioned on the west side of the Ganges and faces east, so when the sun rises, the city is a wash with colour, creating an amazing morning light, and an early morning boat ride is magical and unmissable experience.

This photograph was of the two boys who rowed me along the river – and was the first image I thought of in response to this week’s photograph challenge – afloat.
