My Pen and Ink City Panoramas

A few years ago when I was going through a minimalist phase I did lots of simple pen and ink sketches, trying to capture faces, places and buildings in just a few black lines, by reducing everything back to its basic elements.

Part of this project included a series of panoramic sketches I did of some of my favourite places I have visited on my travels. These pictures are simplified views of cities, drawn mostly from my imagination but also using ideas and images from doodles in my travel journals and photographs.

To be honest, I seem to be in a bit of a void at the moment and suffereing from a bit of painter’s block. So, in an attempt to kick start my creativity and inspire me to produce some art, I have been looking through old sketchbooks and portfolios and revisiting some of my old ideas. And it was here I came across these images again, and I had forgotten how much I liked them.

So I decided I would share them on here… just to see what reaction they got.

Which ones do you like? Do you think any work really well? I am thinking about adding some sewing to them and doing some in embroidery – Do you think it would work? Let me know… I’m waiting for your feedback!

Very nice concept. My favourites are La Paz, Luang Prabang, Manchester and Havana. I would not add too much, though. IMHO they do work very well as they are now.

Thanks so much for your feedback. I really liked them as they too, but I may have a go sewing a couple… just to see. Ali
