Camping by the Indian Ocean in Dar Es Salaam (and a few more of my favourite things)

Much as I like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, my favourite things list is more likely to include camping in remote places, sketching and painting, watching a sunrise and listening to alternative music.

So when a recent holiday in Tanzania involved all of the above, I was happier than a Von Trapp child having a midnight sing along with Fräulein Maria.

We camped at Kipepeo Beach Resort on the edge of the Indian Ocean on the beautiful beaches of Kigamboni in Dar Es Salaam only a few kilometers from where we live.

I did some sketching, swimming, ate some lovely food, watched a cloudy but peaceful sunrise, made some very burnt and very inedible popcorn and was over the moon when The Pixies’ “Debaser” came on the in the bar, especially when my nine year old boy said to me: “Is this the un chien andalusia song?” – there are many reasons why you may have a proud mummy moment, this was one of mine.

It’s great you are getting so much out of your time in Tanzania. And those glorious African flowers you posted, so evocative. For me, you always hit the memory button ! Thanks xx

Thanks Ann… and I remember asking you and Natasha before we took the leap to move here whether you thought we were making the right move – both of you said yes without a second thought. East Africa really is such a beautiful and special place, like Zambia was for you 40 years ago. Much love, as always, Ali xxx

Sounds like a great time with your family! I also love camping and hiking more than most other stuff 🙂
