MMXX 2020
At the beginning of MMXX I thought the year sounded like it was going to be a blast. When I said blast, I meant blast in a good way.
No one had any idea what 2020 had in store for us all. Covid-19 stopped everyone in their tracks and for a while the world ground to a halt.
Time for more painting
Here in Sweden rather than a lock down, there was more of a slow down. Most people continued to work, but from a distance. Life didn’t stop it just became quieter as social distancing kept people apart. As a result, I took the opportunity to do some more painting. After a while I sold a couple of my paintings. So I thought in addition to this Travels with my Art blog I would set up another website where I sell my travel paintings. So here it is Ali Dunnell Artist
Finding a place to paint
But finding a place to paint is easier said than done when you live in a house with three young children, a husband and an mischievous cat. Every time I want to paint, once I have found a place to work, I have to unpack my easel, paints, paintbrushes, canvases etc – only to pack it all up again when I have finished. In addition to finding the space to paint, there is the problem of finding the time to paint, what with teaching art full time and looking after my family. Needless to say I don’t get as much artwork done as I’d like.
My New Art Studio
But needs must. So, a few months ago we converted our little stuga (shed) into an art studio. The light isn’t perfect and the size isn’t really big enough, however it is my space and a place for me to think, plan, create and paint.
A Room of my own
English writer Virginia Woolf once argued that “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction”. I suppose in my case it is finding a room of my own to paint.
